Unique were invited to be part of BBC radio Cumbia’s ” The Gathering” last Wednesday. The Gathering which is presented by Darren Milby chats with local businesses across Cumbria about what they do as a business.
Michelle and Emma chatted about how Unique started back in 2016 following Michelle’s frustration with the Care system. They chatted about the “Unique” model of care and working in partnership with Lancaster University and Defying Dementia. Emma went to discuss how she has come to work for Unique and that all the pre conceptions she had of care were diffused and it’s not just helping with personal care but a wide range of support from helping someone with their shopping and attending groups to end of life care .
Michelle and Emma discussed how the Unique model of care focused on diet, stimulation and exercise which is proven to be beneficial in slowing down the progression of dementia by encouraging people to live well. They also discussed how their work national workforce developments companies in Social care to change the face of caring offering their employees a chance to progress a career in Social care up to Nurse Practitioner level with some employees who have gone on to University to study Medicine and Nursing
Unique aims to develop their model of care and continue developing in new areas where there is a real shortage of good care. Currently Unique provide care in Lancaster, Kendal, Morecambe, Kirkby Lonsdale, Caton, Carnforth, Garstang and Over- Wyre”
